As one of the most influential musicians in history, this woman has blown the industry out of the water. She has managed to accumulate an estimated net worth of over $130 million as well as having won over 420 awards over 560 nominations to date. But, she’s known for more than her music, she is also a style icon. This article will be laying out the style evolution of Christina Aguilera.
1999
The sweet teen Mickey Mouse clubber is seen on the red carpet at the teen choice awards looking like a cute girl next door. With a rainbow poncho and black bottoms, she seems inviting and friendly! Definitely not super diva, but sometimes the humble look is what really catches the eye in an event full of highly esteemed individuals.
2000
By 2000, Aguilera was beginning to diverge into the modern trend for pop and R&B singers of that time, which was to dress urban lax. That meant crop tops, bedazzled jerseys, low rider jeans, bandanas and lots of sneakers! Even with the cool and calm demeanor, her voice was anything but, which is why she became such a fast success.
2001
Not too long after her increase in status following the release of hit “Lady Marmalade,” Aguilera began to get much more adventurous with her appearance. She began to dress very “ethnic” and outrageous but it worked for her! Whether it was “thugged out” cornrows, box braids or even a huge curly afro, she was down. Her makeup also became much more loud and colorful.
2003
Following her new album “Stripped”, which was supposed to represent her shedding the fluff that the industry had forced her to portray, she began to display a much darker and wilder sense of style. It was grunge but glam with a little bit of trashy, but she embraced it to the fullest. Whether that meant having butt length black dread locks or a sleek high pony and leather pants, she was all for it.
2006
Perfectly coupled with her newly released blues and soul album, “Back To Basics,” Aguilera did a 180 and went from dark and cold to soft and luxurious. We got much less Marilyn Manson and a lot more Marilyn Monroe. She was the petite pin up with a voice! Her blonde curls and show girl-esque gowns were life!
2008
By this time, Aguilera had decided to release her greatest hits compilation album entitled, “Keeps Getting Better.” She began to personify the strength and heroism that she had gained being an industry vet with a decade of hits through her super girl persona. Yes honey, thigh high boots, body suits and capes were seen a few times!
2013
By this time, Aguilera had began to tone done her look and go for more of a simplistic approach. She still looked lovely, just a little more age appropriate being in her mid thirties and a mom. Slinky gowns with long flowing hair and that classic red lip became her staple.
2016
Now, as one of the judges on “The Voice,” her look gets changed up so much that we can barely keep up with it! It seems that every episode is pulling from one of her previous style phases. But, we love it because it gives us a nice blast from the past!
