Whatever your celebratory plans this weekend whether it’s at a house, in da club, on a boat or overseas – ensure you look like a ten in every tagged photo on the biggest party night of the year by doing your makeup for the 3AM long game.
How? Try these party-proofing makeup tricks:
PRIMER
Makeup moves due to a combination of sebum (skin’s natural oils) and sweat. A water-resistant primer like Hourglass Veil Primer SPF 15 creates a barrier between your skin and makeup and gives foundation something to grab onto so it doesn’t melt right off your face at the first sign of heat. Apply it on a clean and moisturised face, before your base.
OIL-FREE MAKEUP
If you intend on doing some serious damage on the dance floor, go for makeup that’s oil-free. Aqua or water-based foundations generally stay put since they have a less oils – and more water (your skin will thank you).
SETTING SPRAY
Described as ‘hairspray for your face’, settings sprays are the final step in your makeup routine and like primers, their purpose is to ensure makeup stays put. However, it’s easy to reapply if you need. Youtubers and makeup junkies rave about only one: Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Setting Spray, which uses temperature control tech to keep makeup fresh for up to 16 hours. Believe it.
TUBULAR MASCARA
A lot of people will tell you to go for the waterproof stuff, but the #1 party concern isn’t tears, it’s smudging. Tubulars mascaras (an explainer: HERE) are the only mascaras that don’t give you panda eyes at the end of a big night. Kevin Aucoin The Volume Mascara is 24 carat magic.
PERFUME OIL
Eau de parfums (EDP) last longer than eau de toilettes (EDT), but perfume oils lasts longer than both, emanating again and again as your body heats up. Apply it to the back of your knees and elbows, behind your ears, on the nape of your neck and on the collar bone for a lingering fragrance that’ll turn heads. The AYU Ode and Elizabeth & James Nirvana White Body Oil will fetch you compliments.
LIP LINER
ALWAYS line and fill-in lips with lip liner. (We’ve been through this before.) You won’t get long lasting colour without it.
PRIMING SHAMPOO
Needless to say, hairspray is essential for indestructible hair styles. (Tip: Spray it directly onto bobby pins/hair ties for extra stick.) You can also tap into other styling aids like R+CO Cactus Texturizing Shampoo or Muk Hard Muk Styling Shampoo to give freshly washed hair instant grit and grip, or finish a blow dry off with a blast of cold air to set the style.
