Having a best friend who is a model is one thing, but having one who has walked the Victoria’s Secret runway is a whole new ball game. Meet my best and dearest friend, Miss Elyse Taylor.
Elyse and I met about eight years ago, through common friends, and my first instinct was to automatically hate her.
She was walking down the street, arm in arm with a very fresh ex-boyfriend of mine and I envisioned running her over with my car. It was just the rational solution, as opposed to competing with her for his attention.
She was your typical Aussie beach babe. Tanned legs for days, perfect blonde hair and dressed like she was ready for a photo shoot, while still managing to look like she had just effortlessly fallen into her clothes.
I hated her. She was everything I would never be and it drove me nuts.
And to add insult to injury, she didn’t even notice my distaste for her.
We ran in the same group of friends and I guess I just kept my distance. However, a few weeks later, on New Years Eve, I found myself standing next to her while waiting in a never ending line for the women’s bathroom. She turned to me, grabbed my arm and said come, “let’s go pop a squat”.
For those who don’t know this term, shame on you, but this basically is what us classy women generally should only do if stranded in the desert or on the side of road. In Australia, it’s more common than it should be…
We walked down a little alley way, and without even hesitating, Elyse pulled down her knickers to pee. I hesitated but thought, ‘what the hell’ and went for it. She finished her business, and as she started to walk, all we could hear was a slight squelching sound from her sandals. She turned to me with the sweetest look and said “oh no, I peed all over my sandals!”
It was from this very moment that we became inseparable.
Elyse is another one of those models who has ticked every proverbial fashion box most models aspire to. She has graced the covers of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle, has walked for names like Dolce & Gabbana and Moschino, collaborated on designing numerous collections for big name brands, and ticked the Victoria’s Secret runway off her to do list, a few years back. She is a big inspiration and now a new mum, Elyse features in numerous shoots for AMFAM, and talks with me about pressing topics to do with motherhood, modeling and some serious booty secrets.
