Spring is in the air and New York Fashion Week is truly one of the greatest events in the fashion industry to spot upcoming trends. While there are a bunch of different  fashion designer shows and events, there are certain fashion wardrobe necessities that were clearly making a statement on the runway. The following are a couple must-haves that any model or non-model alike should consider incorporating into their wardrobe

One thing is for certain and without question, the 80’s are basically back in. What we are talking about here is the “new” trench coat, trendy bathrobes and an off the shoulder look that is reminiscent of Flash Dance or any other of your favorite 80’s flick for that matter.

Designers such as Versace, Alexander Wang and Dolce & Gabbana clearly developed a new line of “Athleisure”. The new sexy Athleisure look consists of eye-catching sporty separates, many blame the fashion designers on giving the OK to wear yoga pants 24-7. However, according to Vogue it really is OK to wear yoga pants all day long, even if you have not even planned on working out. The trend is that it is whether it be leggings, sports bras, tanks or even bandanna; Athleisure is clearly in. Skinny bra tops also made a prominent appearance on the spring runways. This look is further combined with a long coat and scarf, or even a t-shirt paired with leggings/yoga pants, complimented with some trendy boots.

What else is new from the spring 2017 fashion week?

Many designers went with a new “see now and buy now format.” The designers who hopped on this experimental tactic include Tom Ford, Thakoon, Rebecca Minkoff and Ralph Lauren, to name just a few. Most of the other fashion designers did the traditional show which consists of a 6-month preview prior to when you can purchase.

In general, bra tops were a huge hit with some of the major designers such as Alexander WangTory Burch, and Oscar de la Renta. Many people in the fashion industry or not, who are into this trend are thankful this did not come into the “buy now” format of some of the shows, giving their customers some extra time to work on their abs for a few months. This crop top trend is made up of lingerie-styled pieces that are paired with beautiful evening skirts, denim jeans and trendy suits.

Finally, shades of blue were utterly prominent on the runway and no, we are not talking about the television show here. This color was hands down popular across the board for this season with all the major fashion designers. The blue shades ranged from the palest of sky to the darkest of navy, and were welcomed by industry professionals as a true break from the black and white trend.
